I am often asked the question, “Are you a local attorney”? To answer that question directly: I currently have offices in Raleigh and Fuquay-Varina. However, I would like to further elaborate by pondering upon whether or not it actually matters as to the outcome of your case.
There are some perceivable benefits to having a “local” such as the feeling of keeping your business in your community. However, in terms of actual and tangible benefit to the end-user, you as the client, I am remiss to think of any more off the top of my head.
One of the most common misconceptions about the “local” is that they will somehow obtain a better result than someone on the “outside”. The truth of the matter is that any attorney you speak with in North Carolina is licensed to practice in all one hundred counties in the state. The fact that someone has an office in the same county as the District Attorney that is prosecuting you simply does not matter. It is true that, on a human level, people like negotiating with people that they simply like. You would be just as well served by anyone that has the experience required to defend your case and maintains a good working relationship with the prosecutor assigned to your case.
Generally speaking, most District Attorney’s offices have a set policy in place when it comes to resolving traffic tickets. If your speed is x over the speed limit then y is the result. It is very cut and dry. The fact that you have a “local” simply does not matter in these situations as he or she will get you the same outcome as anyone else.
With that said, the benefits of hiring a “non-local”, Cotten Law perhaps, will be seen in the monetary savings you gain.
